Making It Real is a set of co-produced statements that describe what good care and support looks like. The statements can be used to spark meaningful conversations and encourage people to share ideas.

You can use the Making It Real statements as conversation starters in a meeting helps to create a focal point and encourage participation. The MIR hub offers a range of materials available for you to use during conversations, meetings and events. But for these meetings to be truly effective, they must be inclusive and accessible, ensuring that everyone has the chance to contribute.
If you’re planning a meeting or event and would like some practical tips, you might be interested in the recent TLAP research on inclusive and insightful meetings. Conducted in partnership with the National Co-production Advisory Group, this project identifies key barriers that can prevent people with lived experience from participating. Insights were gathered through meetings and an online survey, leading to the development of a practical guide for event organisers on how to overcome those barriers and put lived experience front and centre.
The report and guidance will walk you through the four key aspects for improving the inclusivity and accessibility of your events:
- Plan for inclusion and include older and disabled people and carers in planning
- Build strong relationships through excellent communication
- Find the right location
- Recognise contribution through payment, reward and public acknowledgement
